Backup and disaster recovery involves periodically creating or updating one or more copies of files, storing them in one or more remote locations, and using the copies to continue or resume business operations in the event of data loss due to file damage, data corruption, cyberattack or natural disaster.

Due to increase cyber attacks, natural disasters and end user errors data is often stolen, damaged or destroyed. What a back up connection allows you to do is recover information from the most recent back up completed. Some organizations back up data hourly, daily, weekly, etc. Best practices are to have multiple back up types for redundancy.

Back up's eliminate down time and costs when an attack or disaster do strike. The benefit of multiple types is that if a storm takes out your city the cloud has a back up. If there is a cyber attack, you can be up and running through your onsite back up. Many of the costs associated with cyber attacks have to do with down time, and paying employees while unable to work and make money for the company.
